Well it's the second week of the new year - and since last year i was dedicated to making the blog last for the whole year - i can count it as successful - if sporadic.
The new year, for many, is a time to make resolutions - promises to themselves to do better, do more, do something in the 365 days to come. The secret to the resolution is to only say something that you're sure you're going to do. I am not much of a resolution maker. I don't see any point in making promises to myself that i'm pretty sure that i'm not going to keep. I'm not a good liar - not even to myself. If you can't do it, don't say it. But if I were going to make resolutions -- here are some that I would most likely make.
1. Exercise more -- in order to make this a success, I will now introduce the new sport of click-arobics. It is the high intensity, long term cardio routine in which you attempt to raise your heart rate but changing channels at lightening speed. It can also be achieved by playing xbox or any video games with your children and may be more engaging.
2. Deep breathing exercises - increasing oxygen is supposed to be really healthy. I will use these exercises whenever I really want to slap Franklin, Elijah, Isaiah or Jose upside the head. Instead of falling prey to that instinct (which isn't a lot of exercise) i will take several deep breaths, thus increasing my oxygen intake, thus being more healthy.
3. Walking -- as in away from conflict and people who cause it (thus the change in this post)
4. Church - I promise to not give Jose any sort of antihistimane on Saturday nights so that he will sleep through church. I do not promise to not be really quiet if it looks like he might sleep through service on his own. And I continue to promise to not question, scoff at - but encourage and tow the line for Elijah's childlike belief -- as it would be nice if he didn't have the same questins, doubts and general skepticism that I have.
5. 4 things nice for every negative thing. I will try to say more positive things than negative things. Unfortunately, I don't believe that I know enough positive things to say about some people to even come close to being 4x the negative things i think and say about them.
6. Sex - I promise to encourage Jose to have sex more than once in the next year. However, said encouragement may occur during the middle of church when I know there is absolutely no chance that I'll have to follow through with said act. Don't get me wrong - I don't mind spending the 10 or 15 minutes with Jose in this fashion, he's been well trained and completes the task well -- unlike my neighbors, I have not had to attend nor have, a sex toy party -- but at the ripe old age of 37 - I would happily trade sex for a year for at least 2 hours a day to myself to lie on the couch, watch tv or read.
